    Project Description: Installation of turbine control equipment supplied by ABB Turbine Automation consisting of valve stands, oil containment duct sections, LVDT devices, speed probes and a remote reset device all which are to be installed on Bayside Number 1 Turbine (Gannon Unit 5).
    PTS Scope of Work: Complete installation of ABB Turbine Automation turbine control equipment on a coal fired Siemens Westinghouse steam turbine. This installation work includes locating, aligning, leveling, mounting, fitting, piping, wiring and testing six (6) valve stands and oil containment duct sections, four (4) LVDT devices, one (1) set of speed probes, one (1) remote reset device and all automation TCS/DCS controls.

    Project Description: Maintenance on a Flue Gas De-Sulphurization (FGD) Control System Units 1 and 2 which consists of a Modicon Quantum control package which will communicate via RIO connection to several remote IO racks.
    PTS Scope of Work: PTS provided electrical craft to replace rusted out conduits in the Flue Gas Desulfurization area on Units 1 and 2 which consisted of de-terminating and removing existing wire in conduit runs as directed and removing associated conduit. We replaced the conduit with supplied pvc coated rigid conduit ensuring that all areas on exposed conduits after cutting to fit and thread has been recoated with the proper pvc coating material to obtain the manufacturers specifications for thickness, replaced all damaged wiring, and pull existing wiring back into conduit and then terminated.

    Project Description: Grass-roots construction and start-up of a combined cycle facility. The plant consists of a Siemens Westinghouse 501-D5A gas combustion turbine and is rated at 120 MW.
    PTS Scope of Work: Installation of an iso-phase bus duct system, 7,000 feet of rigid conduit, 15,000 feet of aboveground electrical and instrumentation conduit, 250 feet of cable tray, 12,000+ terminations including grounding, high voltage switch and dead end structure erection, 325 PTS instruments and associated tubing and pneumatic controls, high voltage testing and systems turnover. This was a fast past project and was completed in under 90 days.

    Project Description: Grass-roots construction of 1 GE Frame 7EA combustion turbine with a Nooter/Eriksen HRSG and a GE Steam. Turbine
    PTS Scope of Work: Installation of all field-mounted instrumentation, sensing lines, CEM equipment, and process tubing. The unit was completed in March 1995 and went into commercial operation in July of 1995.
  • Palatka Generating Station located in Palatka, Florida

    Project Description: Flue Gas De-Sulphurization (FGD) Control System Upgrade. The existing PLC Control System for all 5 scrubber modules on each of the 2 generating units (10 modules total) are being replaced.
    PTS Scope of Work: Detailed design, supply, programming, testing, and training for the complete control system. The existing system consists of Modicon 384 based PLC system communicating with several Remote IO racks. The new system will include a Modicon Quantum control package, which will communicate via RIO connection to several remote IO racks. The existing hard-wired conventional style control board will remain. The initial phase of the project was completed in December of 1999 including Operator and Maintenance instruction on Modicon. The final phase is scheduled for completion by the end of November 2000.

    PTS Scope of Work: Review of all calibration and vendor information for the instrumentation and control equipment plant wide. Then recalibrate each instrument to verify the accuracy. This work was completed in the fall of 1999.

    Project Description: Grass-roots construction and start-up of 3 GE Frame 7FA’s, simple cycle, combustion turbine-generator sets. The units are gas-fired only utilizing dry-low NOx technology with a state of the art Mark V Control System.
    PTS Scope of Work: Installation of all field-mounted instrumentation, sensing lines, and process tubing; calibration of all instrumentation and checkout technical support for completion of loop checks from the instrumentation back to the Mark V.
  • Palatka Generating Station located in Palatka, Florida

    Project Description: Upgrade of the Control System for the entire Coal Handling portion of the plant. The existing PLC Control System is based on a Forney designed and supplied system.
    PTS Scope of Work: Detailed design, supply, programming, installation, testing and training for the new Modicon Quantum based control system. The scope also includes the evaluation and conversion of the original Forney System to the new Quantum system. The design includes 3 HMI stations communicating with the 3 Quantum CPU’s and multiple Distributed I/O racks and an Engineering Workstation via Modbus Plus Network. A portion of the communication network will be accomplished via RF Modem utilizing Spread Spectrum technology. The Control System will handle such tasks as unloading of rail cars, stacker / reclaimer control, coal transfer, etc. The existing hard-wired operator panels will be replace with touch screen HMI stations utilizing Citect software for screen development, alarm processing, data acquisition, historical collection and trending, and report generation.
  • Crystal River Generating Facility located in Crystal River, FL

    Project Description: Coal Yard Control Upgrade. The Crystal River Generating Facility includes 4 coal-fired boilers and Steam Turbines. Units 1 and 2 are rated at 400 and 500 MWs respectively, while Units 4 and 5 are 720 MWs each. The facility is divided into 2 areas separated by approximately ½ mile, each with 2 Units and their own coal yard and coal yard control room. The existing control of the coal yard utilizes Modicon Quantum PLC hardware. In Phase 1 of the Project, PTS Project Scope included upgrading the existing Operator Interface that was a hard-wired BTG style with hand-switches and indicating lights. The Operator Interface was replaced with 3 Intellution Dynamic workstations in each control room. Additional Modicon Quantum hardware was added to incorporate the new automation. The 2 control rooms were linked via RF Spread Spectrum radio utilizing Ethernet communications technology for high-speed data transfer. Phase 2 of the Project includes the automation of the Tripper Car controls for Units #1 and #2 silo feeders. This includes design, procurement, and implementation of a complete automation system for this process. The automation system will also utilize Modicon Quantum PLC and remote mounted Intellution Dynamic touch-screens. The system will be connected via Ethernet to the Phase 1 portion of the upgrade
    PTS Scope of Work: Scheduling, engineering, procurement, design, implementation, installation supervision, and start-up support for the entire project.
  • Intercession City and Debary Peaking Facilities located in Intercession City and Debary, FL

    Project Description: E&I Engineering, Construction Management, and Start-up of Inlet Fogging Installation. The Project Scope included the installation of an Inlet Fogging System, which is used to increase the available MW of each combustion turbine by decreasing the dry bulb temperatures of the combustion turbine inlet air. The Inlet Fogging System was provided by MEE Industries Incorporated.
    PTS Scope of Work: Engineering, design, and procurement of all electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment integrating the MEE fogging system and the Foxboro DCS system. The development of all process control logic and graphical interface, Control Wiring and Loop Drawings, installation and start-up supervision were also part of the PTS scope of supply. The Debary Facility included the conversion of an existing tank to a demineralized water tank including new tank level instrumentation and its interface with the Allen Bradley Water Treatment Control System.

    Project Description: System Integration & Project Engineering for Plant DCS for 3 new Combustion Turbines. This Project includes the grass-roots construction of 3 General Electric Frame 7 EA combustion turbine generator sets. These Units are dual fuel, dry-low NOx Combustion Turbines utilizing the Mark V Control System. The Foxboro IA Plant DCS will be expanded to accommodate the additional requirements of remotely controlling the 3 new Units. The Balance of Plant (BOP) will also be expanded with the addition of a new demineralized water tank and a new NOx water-forwarding pump with appropriate instrumentation.
    PTS Scope of Work: Detailed engineering and configuration the Foxboro I/A including process control, graphics, report generation, historical trending and alarming, procurement of all Foxboro hardware required to integrate the new combustion turbines and the new BOP equipment into the Plant DCS. The engineering of the hard-wired interface between the FPC RTU and the GE Mark V Control System is also part of the PTS scope of supply. This interface allows the FPC Energy Control Center to operate the Units from a remote location. PTS will also provide start-up support during the functional testing of the combustion turbines from the Plant DCS.
  • Intercession City and Debary Peaking Facilities located in Intercession City and Debary, FL

    Project Description: Project Management for Y2k Upgrade of Control System. The project scope included the upgrading of the Plant DCS system to replace the obsolete General Electric Smart Remote interface with Mark IV combustion turbine control system with a state of the art Foxboro IA DCS. The installation of a new Continuous Emission Monitoring system was also installed at both facilities.
    PTS Scope of Work: Project Engineering for the entire interface between the new Foxboro DCS and the Mark IV system and the new CEM equipment provided by Spectrum Systems. Scope included issuing of Purchase Orders, detailed engineering of communication interface, project scheduling, design of control wiring and loop drawings, development of construction work packages, FAT and Start-up support. This also included the detailed design for the first ever Foxboro IA serial interface with the Teleperm XP Control System.
  • Sewell Creek Generating Facility located in Cedartown, Georgia

    PTS Scope of Work: Installation of all field-mounted instrumentation, sensing lines, and process tubing; calibration of all instrumentation; installation of the Continuous Emission Monitoring system and calibration and checkout of all protective relays for electrical equipment 480 V and above and the generator control and synchronization equipment. PTS also provided technician support for completion of loop checks from the instrumentation back to the Teleperm XP.

  • Cogeneration Facility Installation located in Murfreesboro, TN

    Project Description: Addition of a 5 MW Solar Combustion Turbine and generator set, HRSG boiler, dual-fired auxiliary boiler and the addition of a new chiller.
    PTS Scope of Work: All instrumentation and controls. A conventional indicating and control Operator panel with alarm annunciation was provided and an Operator workstation running an Intellution HMI package. The boiler control utilizes Eurotherm Process Automation equipment mounted in the Operator control panel. The Intellution HMI is connected to the Eurotherm Controllers via Modbus communication interface. The HMI included operator control functions, alarming functions, historical data collection and trending, and report generation. All equipment was supplied or manufactured by PTS, Inc.
  • Dade County Resource Recovery Facility located in Miami, FL

    Project Description: Replacement of the Induced Draft (ID) fans and associated controls for each of the 4 boilers located at the Dade County Resource Recovery Facility in Miami, FL. The scope also called for installation of a new Air Quality Control System (AQCS).
    PTS Scope of Work: Engineering, design, supply, installation, start-up, and training for the PLC based control system and HMI interface on the new ID fans. PTS scope also included a hard-wired interface with the existing Bailey control system, which is required for the AQCS The control system is a GE Fanuc PLC system utilizing a Genius Bus communications network to communicate with the GE Cimplicity HMI system The new AQCS system also communicates on the same Genius Bus Network. The ID fan controls utilize a GE 90/30 system while the Bailey interface will utilize a GE 90/70 system. The project was completed in the spring of 1999. PTS has been awarded a second project scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2001.

Control Room Control Consoles were modified and reworked to include new large screen displays replacing old recorders.
